A visit to the Furnace and to the Barovier & Toso Museum
Fondamenta Vetrai, 28 – Murano and the closing lunch
Starting from the Hotel, a dedicated boat will take us to the Island of Murano, revealing additional views of the lagoon.
On reaching the Island of Murano, we shall first stop at Palazzo Contarini, the current site of the firm Barovier & Toso, where we can admire the ancient furnace and the Museum of Glass Art.
Barovier & Toso was established in the mid-13th century, and is the fifth oldest company in the world to still conduct business.
Manual glassmaking processes have not undergone any changes over the centuries, and the glass-blowing rod remains the main tool of Venetian masters.
Besides admiring the magnificent artefacts, we will witness the manufacturing process “glass blowing” during all the glassmaking phases. Since almost all processing phases are the outcome of improvisations by the craftsman and of the temperature of glass paste, no two items will be identical. This is the genuine charm of Murano glass.

The visit will close with a quick lunch before returning to the hotel, by boat.
